On the night of 23rd December 2013, a severe gale damaged the Portcullis Club roof. Five steel panels and the cappings on the ridge and eves sections of the roof were torn off exposing the old felt roof covering beneath; the wind carried two of the 20’ panels over the fence behind the club. Fortunately, a local roofing contractor, Exterior Homecare, was able to carry out emergency repairs on 3rd January and prevent further water damage.

During the Christmas period, the heavy rain penetrated the roof and soaked the ceiling tiles in the Bar.

The roof will be finally repaired as soon as new panels can be delivered after the New Year holiday.

On a different note, the club room is now scheduled to be decorated. Now that the outside front wall of the clubhouse has been pebbledashed and waterproofed, the inside of the club room can now be decorated. It has been stripped out and made ready for painting and papering.

Our decorator, John Appleyard started work on Monday 6th January 2014 and will be working until 20th January. When completed, the decorations will freshen up the room, and with new curtains and new ceiling tiles installed, it will become a welcoming and relaxing space in which to hold events and private parties.
