The climax of our summer events in 2015 has to be the Kenley Hot Rod, Custom Cars & Bike Show held on the 6th September in the Portcullis Club field. In its second year running, the organisers, Peter, CJ, Sally and Melanie, put together an amazing fun-filled family event.

Sorry Peter and CJ, we all know that Sally and Melanie are the “real brains” behind the Kenley Hot Rod, Custom Cars and Bike Show

The Portcullis Club field was packed with a wonderful array of more than four hundred cars and bikes; from the Hot Rods classic American cars with their modified large engines, the Indian motorbikes and the Harley’s, to vintage and military vehicles….. prepared and displayed by their proud owners. Prizes were awarded by Peter Ralph and C J Smith for the various categories of vehicles.

The event was not only for the adults; there was a large bouncy castle and face paintings for the children. Though we did catch sight of a few of the adults getting their face painted over at the face painting booth!!!

Not to be “outshone” by the display of cars, the caterers provided an excellent choice of food (and beverages) throughout the day; from bbq chicken, burgers, cheesy toasties to cakes and ice-creams!!! We’re sure many of you have discovered the Pimms tent too on the day (put together by our very own Events Manager, Bernie Willis, and her “Motley Crew” of volunteers)!!!!

We also have the pleasure of having three magnificent full size replicas of WW2 fighter aircraft – The Spitfire, the Hurricane and the Messerschmitt ME-109, brought in and on display in front of the Club building. These attracted huge interest from the visitors who were able to sit in the cockpit for a nominal fee of £2.

For the jitterbugs and swing-dancing fans, there were music and live performances throughout the day to keep their feet tapping away!!!

Our army of volunteers worked all weekend to make this event a resounding success and our thanks go out to all those who assembled the aircraft, served behind the indoor and outdoor bars, cleared away rubbish, and who persuaded local companies to support and sponsor our fund raising day.

A total of £5300 was collected for the RAFA & Portcullis Club (Registered Charity No. 226686), including a very generous donation of £300 from the mobile Hot Food Stand!!!

Looking forward to next year’s Kenley Hot Rod, Custom Cars & Bike Show!!! Here’s a small selection of photos from the day. Click any image to view a larger version.
