Last November, the Club Committee decided it was time to give the Function Room a facelift. The room was last decorated in the 70’s and has been looking dated for some time. This January the room was stripped out by volunteers ready to be painted and papered. The plan was to tackle the walls first, and then replace the ceiling tiles and curtains.

It was suggested that the old fireplace be opened up and a woodburner stove be installed to provide a welcoming feel to the room and provide a focal point. It is also expected to reduce our electricity bill considerably by using the abundance of free timber lying around in the club grounds.

The work is still in progress and is expected to be completed by the end of February. Ken Raffield, our resident archivist, has spoken of a mural painted on the wall behind the stage.

The panelling on this wall will be carefully removed to see whether the mural is still in existence and if so, it will be of great interest to members and historians of RAF Kenley, so watch this space; more pictures to follow.
